A new family member

I was visiting a friend this past weekend about 325 miles from home. The weather was cold and rainy and my friend told me about a stray cat that had been hanging around the neighborhood for about a week. They had done all they could to try to find her owner, but no luck.

Well, they knew what a sucker I am for anything with four legs and fur, so when this beautiful, young (I’m guessing 8-10 months) cat showed up meowing and begging for attention, I just couldn’t resist. After two days of her hanging around, with me taking food out for her and sitting on the porch cuddling her, I just couldn’t stand it. I decided that if I couldn’t find a home for her, I’d keep her myself.

That was 4 days ago and we now have a new addition to our family. She fell asleep on my shoulder and stayed there purring and/or sleeping for the whole 6 hour ride home. After that, there was no way I could part with her.

She was very annoyed with my dog when we first got home, but within two days, they’re sleeping together and she’s cleaning the dog on a regular basis. My other two cats aren’t quite as accepting, but they’re getting there.

I’m pretty sure she’s a Maine Coon… she has all the features; the tufted ears (wide at the bottom), the coloring, the huge fluffy tail, the “eyeliner” around her eyes. I have an appointment with the vet, so I guess I’ll find out for sure then, but I’m 99.99% sure. I haven’t chosen a name for her yet… just haven’t found anything yet that fits her. Nothing seems quite regal enough.

Hi Barb — Fine Story. Love your story and thanks for sharing it. Your new cat companion appreciates your kindness. And we know that the rewards are high for us too. Helmi Flick has two Maine Coons and I have formed an attachment with one, Zak. I miss him….Michael (PoC Admin).
