Can cats get cancer from second hand smoke?

We are reminded by Prof Fitzpatrick that cats and dogs can get cancer from second-hand smoke. In fact, they are more susceptible to getting cancer from second-hand smoke because they are nearer the ground i.e. carpets and other furnishings and of course cats groom themselves meticulously which means that they are more likely to ingest the chemicals which cause cancer (carcinogens). Therefore cat owners and dog owners should be very cognisant of the fact that if they are smoking they are exposing their pet to the risk of acquiring cancer. This is more likely to be in the intestines for cats and the nose for dogs so says Prof Fitzpatrick.
