For those of you who were saddened by the death of Colonel Meow, I’ve learned Colonel Meow will live on. It has been brought to my attention that Colonel Meow had a “secret” littermate named Merlin the Meowciful, or Sir Merlin.
Although Merlin doesn’t have the following Colonel Meow had gathered with his “minions,” he has been kind enough to tell us all how he came into the family.
“Oddly enough I was rescued by a damsel in distress known as Amanda Brown. She saw my brother, Colonel Meow and I at Petco where we was up for adoption by the Seattle Persian and Himalayan Rescue group. She so longed for a furry friend and couldn’t pass me up.”
Sir Merlin describes himself as a Persian mix who is lazy, always out of catnip, and always looks grumpy. Merlin enjoys his catnip, gaming, and saving the world-among other things. He does go on to say he’s a very pleasant kitty in reality. But who wants pleasant in the internet world where cats rule and dogs drool (oops, I’m gonna hear it from the dog people for THAT comment!)
Merlin spends part of his day entertaining his fans with comments like “Watching and waiting for the stupid red dot! I’ll get you!” and “Enjoying my day with my loyal subjects!”
It’s nice to know that Colonel Meow will live on in the form of his brother, who appears to be as sharp-tongued as his sibling. Those who have been led to his Facebook page are thrilled that satire will live on. Everyone likes a smart-mouthed cat. Trust me, take it from Furby, that potty mouth gets noticed. At least some of the time.
A lot of people don’t like the idea of exploiting a cat. I don’t think this is exploitation. It is having some fun. My cat Sealy runs his own page, and has handled it on his own since September 6, 2012. Cat lovers enjoy keeping up with their favorite cats on social media. Michael has the exclusive on Sealy stories, and the readers at PoC have kept up with our baby boy since the beginning.
Facebook is full of brave cats and humorous cats. Many cats are now famous due to Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
Word has it the U.S. government even monitors social media as part of Homeland Security. I wonder what will happen once the government realizes that one third of the profiles on Facebook are said to be of the non-human variety? I haven’t found proof to back up that statement, but I believe it’s a close percentage. Hmmmm….
As for me, I’ll continue to check Merlin the Meowciful’s Facebook page every day, because I need a good laugh. I’ll check on the other cats I follow whose stories of recovery were chronicled using Facebook.
I am curious as to what the readers here look for when they’re invited to check out a cat on Facebook? Humor? Beauty? Please leave a comment as to what makes you “like” a cat.

just as beautiful as all our cats on this wonderful community of cat lovers. I would hate to be the one brushing him though. Brushing my three fluffy furballs is hard enough. I dont know where i would be if i couldnt chat and comment with fellow cat lovers

Our 2 cats love being brushed and combed, do yours? Jozef would let me brush him forever, Walter grabs the brush when he’s had enough lol
they mostly enjoy being brushed until theres those bits that stick to their body. Ozzie doesnt enjoy it much though. i just hate it when they badly matted.
We use the Furrminator to brush off the huge red cushion the cats sleep on. Furby INSISTS on a brushing any time he sees that brush. Laura grooms all of them several times a week.We have enough fur to make a new cat once she’s done.
So, now someone brings Colonel’s brother to light. For what purpose?

The thought that hits me is whether he’s the same cat since we don’t see photos of them together at any point. I hope no one would do that.
They were litter mates at one point. One lady adopted Merlin and stayed in Seattle, one adopted Col. Meow and moved to SoCal. Litter mates usually don’t get the chance to have family reunions. 🙂

You should see my Furby https://www.facebook.com/furbyshouse. He has a very smart mouth and in reality he’s a bully. He’s a real character and has been on PoC since late 2009.
Did anyone else watch Lil’ Bub’s TV Special Saturday night on Animal Planet? Colonel Meow was in it. Worst idea for a TV show ever. I’m curious who thought it could be worth the money invested in hopes of a profit? Totally ridiculous. It was just moronic. Perhaps really young kids might of appreciated it, but at 10PM/11PM EST?

Well, she sat on the couch and lapped up sour cream for most of the show. She is just so popular. I think they may have sought her out. All the animals seemed to be happy.
Merlin is gorgeous! I don’t think sharing photos and news about cats on face book is exploitation, it’s fun and it doesn’t harm the cat at all.
Exploitation is the life poor ‘Grumpy Cat’ leads, being toted around for strangers to pose with and laugh at and handle! I feel so sad for her when I see videos of her creeping away trying to find some privacy and peace.
I ‘like’ quite a few facebook cats, but don’t have time to visit their pages much.
My favourite (apart from yours of course Elisa) is George Cat because every so often he posts a message to say if he gets 50 more friends he will donate £50 to Kays Hill Cattery, he’s done that quite a few times, we know his dad who is wheelchair bound and it’s lovely he thinks of the cats in care.
Walter and Jozef don’t mind me sharing their photos any where, but they both say they are too busy mousing and sleeping to have their own page lol
Ruth, I think one of us should do a page on celebrity cats and how people find fame through their cat provided their cat has outstanding looks. There is a great similarity to human celebrity and it is a bit like parents living through their children’s success.
I agree that this is not exploitation. The cat is healthy and it is all for fun and the cat doesn’t suffer in anyway. There is certainly a place for having fun with cats as long they are treated well.
