Emily is owned and loved by Lu Anne Herman, who is disabled. Emily had a happy life along with her sister Charlotte in Cortez, Colorada. Due to worsening health conditions, Lu Anne’s sister came down to help her pack and move closer to her family. During the packing and cleaning, Emily got scared and escaped through the dryer vent.

They searched for Emily and stayed as long as they could before the landlord told them they had to leave. Lu Anne immediately posted online on community boards etc, flyers to try and find Emily. In mid-May, previous neighbors notified Lu Anne that they had seen her, and a local rescue group made attempts to trap her with no luck. Emily is small, timid, and shy so that complicated matters.

During the summer Lu Anne spoke with pet detectives as well as other experienced parties in attempts to try and find her, as well as keeping the missing posts up there locally. Lu Anne’s new home in Montrose, Colorado is five hours away from Cortez by car.

Emily was found and Lu Anne was notified on November 6 and shared her fragile condition

“Today I was notified that Emily had been found! She had been put in a box and taken to the local shelter in Cortez Co. She was found with a gaping hole in her shoulder, abscess, and you could see all the way to the bone. She also was very thin and anemic. The bad sore gave off a bad odor as well. The vets at Montezuma Vet Clinic in Cortez rushed her into surgery. She made it through, but there are concerns that the infection is also in the bone. She also has some bad teeth but those can’t be dealt with until Emily is stronger and further down the path of healing. Tonight, Emily is fighting a bad infection.”

Should you wish to make a donation directly to Emily’s care, please do so on the Facebook: For Pete’s Sake Cortez page and state the donation is for Emily. At first, the vet clinic was accepting call-in donations but things got too hectic so it’s best to donate via the rescue fostering her.

Rescue and transport to the vet were provided by For Pet’s Sake Humane Society also located in Cortez.

Lu Anne is posting updates on Emily’s GoFundMe page. At this time Emily isn’t healthy enough for transport. Lu Anne is hoping her sweet kitty will pull through and needs both financial support and well wishes. Please donate a few dollars if you can and share this story.

While this may not be a major news story, it gives hope to those with lost cats. Even hearing your cat is injured is better than the ‘not knowing.’

  2. Poor sweet Emily. My heart is breaking for her being lost for over six months. She must have been terrified. I am so happy she will be reunited with Lu Anne soon. Praying that her infection heals completely and she will feel better soon. Going home will be such a joyful celebration.

  3. I don’t know what I did wrong, but I donated via PayPal but it did not let me attach a note to say it was for Emily, and so I then had to leave a message on the Facebook page to that effect.
