New Rare Feline Breed Discovered on Galápagos Islands: Research Scientist Rejoices

Just when I thought that there weren’t any new cat breeds, I was flabbergasted the other day after learning that an extremely rare feline breed had just been discovered on the Galápagos Islands. Apparently, a few tourists exploring the Islands caught a glimpse of the extremely shy kitty, and they were so excited about seeing this mysterious feline they immediately placed in a call to Dr. Henri Irkensome, the Director of the Department of Rare Species, and professor of genetics at the Glutesenitzsky University in Mortenziana.

At first glance, even though this feline strongly resembles the common brown tabby domestic house cat and isn’t particularly odd looking, depending on its mood, or on what it has eaten, this cat can change its coat color in a heartbeat, in the same way as the chameleon.

Similar to what causes Flamingo’s feathers to be pink by feeding on an exclusive diet of highly pigmented shrimp, after feeding on its favorite prey, the varicolored Pisces Errectus, its silky spotted brown coat transforms into a color that is sparkling red. The coat will, at times also display a rainbow-like patch on its chest shortly after eating and digesting the fish.

After receiving the call, Dr. Irkensome hopped on a plane to the Galápagos Islands. Although the professor is of Namibian descent he must have had the luck of the Irish since the cat immediately jumped out from the bushes and sat down right in front of him.

Since the kitty appeared to have taken a liking for the professor, he was able to easily handle the feline. After thoroughly examining the cat, measuring its length, size and weight, he started excitedly jumping up and down.

Since the cat only weighed about 15 pounds, he knew immediately that this cat was a very young Ouranio Toxo; a member of a very preternatural feline species. Ouranio Toxo is the Greek word for “rainbow”, a name which was given to the breed over a century ago.

Upon maturity, at about 4 years-of-age, depending on its gender, the Ouranio Toxo weighs between 40-50 pounds. These kitties are famous for being chatty cats, and make a sound that resembles the combination of a barking dog and a “singing” Siamese.

The Ouranio Toxo is highly intelligent. Under the right circumstances and being in the company of a guardian who understands the species, these cats enjoy doing tricks and they excel in learning them far and above the skill of the average house cat. They also appear to be able to read people’s minds and are considered psychic.

But following the Galápagos Islands being opened to the tourist trade; with all the noise and excessive hustle and bustle, this naturally solitary and shy feline has had great difficulty breeding. Regrettably these awesome cats now find themselves on the list of highly endangered species.

What makes matters even worse, I recently was made aware of some nasty rumors flying around the Internet pertaining to an exotic cat breeder who found and smuggled a pair of these exceptional felines out of the Galápagos Islands into the United States. The breeder plans to sell the kittens for $25,000.

This writer strongly feels that these magnificent cats belong on their native home on the Galapagos Islands, roaming free. To remove them from their native environment and to profit off of them is indeed an horrendous travesty. What do you think? Tell us in a comment.
