Unknown Florida Wildcat
This post has a lot of comments and is one the best unknown wild cat sightings on PoC. The picture above is by one of the visitors who commented. It is not the cat as far as I remember that the author of the post saw. Why not see if you can help identify this cat or have you seen one in the same place?
Black California Wildcat?

Jaguarundi at the Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park?
This concerns a beautiful part of Florida and the sighting of a strange, smallish cat. People think it might be a jaguarundi. This is a small wild cat that should not be in Florida unless it was imported into the state by a person as a pet.
Frustrated by Wild Cat at Lambert Hill
Not much information on this. But it is about a wild cat that eats chickens and the owner of the chickens is unhappy and doesn’t know what to do other to shoot the cat. Is that all there is to do in the USA?

Unidentified black 40lb cat in Arizona
Once again I hope someone can identify this cat. I tried. This cat is about 4 feet long. The big issue is whether people are seing large feral cats or large stray domesticated cats at a distance.
Western New York Sighting of Unidentified Feline Animal
Another one of those US unknown wild cat sightings that concerns a 45 lb animal that looked like a feline sighted in Amherst NY. Can anyone help? There are quite a few comments that I have not read so perhaps someone has already helped.
ok I live next to woods. I have 14 cats (all have been “fixed”) and all are in and out but I3. leave food outside on my carport. I noticed a new one running into the woods when I open my door last week and the last 2 days he has been chillin on a chair like my other cats but he looks like no cat I’ve had. He has a big head and his body is smaller, as in thinnier but he is muscular and has big paws and long back legs but the weirdest thing is he has rounded ears and they are more wide/open than my other cats and I have all kinds. He is the color of a grey tabby but the lines/stripes are not real sharp. His eyes are the color of the inside of a lime but more yellow. I put food by my truck, where he goes to when I come out, and he started eating and I was on the ground doing my “here kitty kitty” thing and he ignored me. I always get some type response from cats but this one just acted like I was nothing and kept eating.He was under the truck but his eyes were slits, not dialated like my cats. My cats seem to know him and allow him to eat their food but they back up and let him eat alone. I look up cats with rounded ears and I found a photo that looks exactly like him but it is a Wild Cat and I live in NW Florida so cannot be that. Do kittens that are abandoned and live in the woods grow rounded ears and big heads etc? I’m outside so I cannot imagine any kitten being out there without me hearing something and th4e woods are not thick, it’s a patch of woods with swamp and on the other side is a place where hunting dogs are kept in pens by these idiots (sad) and then a cemetery, small patches of woods but I see many deer and they too come on my carport and eat cat food!
Hello Juliet, the picture that you have uploaded is of what appears to be a Scottish wildcat so I presume that you uploaded this to give me an impression as to what the cat that you are referring to looks like. But this is not the cat that you are referring to quite obviously.
I’m going to say something which you might find disappointing. I think the cat that you are referring to is an unusual looking stray or feral tabby cat. Let’s remember that the appearance of cats can vary quite substantially. I have seen pictures of semi-feral cats which have quite outstanding appearances and which are quite different to the norm. Sometimes the appearance is unusual and it makes us think whether this is truly a domestic or semi-feral cat. One tries to pigeonhole the cat into one of the wild cat species but I think that this is a fruitless exercise.
Logically, the cat that you saw has to be a stray domestic cat and not a wild cat judging by your description. The only wildcat species in Florida are the puma, bobcat and jaguarundi and none of these fit your description. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I really feel the same, the rounded ears and big head just threw me a bit. Hopefully, he will get used to my voice and become one of the family.
I’d love to see a photo of him. He must look impressive.
