NBC12 reports that seveteen foster cats have been killed in a fire at the home of cat foster carer, Shannon Squires in South Chesterfield, Virginia, USA home on Thursday night. Two of the foster cats are still missing while eight were taken to an emergency veterinary clinic in the area for treatment.

“They were fostering cats and had a total of 27 in the home.” – Firefighter Lt. Jason Elmore

It is believed that the fire started in the master bedroom but the cause is as yet unknown. Chesterfield fire crews responded at 6:01 pm to the 2700 block of Milhorn Street to the reported fire.

It appears that the firefighters initially found 12 deceased cats at the scene and then went into the bedroom while looking around and found some more under the bed. The cats at the veterinary clinic for treatment appear to be doing okay.

In addition, a child and three adults were living at the home and are being cared for by the American Red Cross. When more news is available I will update this page.
