I think you might have got the message from the title. This is the home of a person who has five cats and two dogs. They like to keep the home clean and odour free.
In order to achieve this goal, the person, a Reddit.com user, has the following equipment:
- 3 HEPA filters, one in the bedroom, one in the living room/kitchen and one in the laundry room where most of the letterboxes are.
- Two robotic vacuum cleaners (Roombas in America) which run three times a week. He/she has an old one bought in 2015 on one floor and a newer model on another. In addition, once a week, they run a Dyson vacuum cleaner in one room and on the stairs. They also use it to vacuum two particular areas where fur tends to collect.
- A Litter Robot automatic litter tray which they say was expensive but it’s good for five cats. They have a litter area on each floor of their home. They plan to buy another litter robot for another floor. They said that the Litter Robot made a difference to the odours and managing cat toileting.
They were responding to a question from another Reddit.com user who wanted help as they were combining households and will be living with six pets: four cats and two dogs.
They wanted best tips from other Reddit users and how often do you have to vacuum. They said that they had an urge to do “spring cleaning level vacuuming every time I walk in the house”.
They added that there was pet hair everywhere and that the letterboxes seemed to be unmanageable. They didn’t want their house to smell and didn’t want guests to be served with food with hair in it! And finally they asked, “How do I keep everyone off the counters?”
Comment: when you have six pets in a home you have particular problems! You have management problems. There’s a lot to be done and a lot of equipment to buy. People should realise this. The costs can be quite extravagant if you do a really good job of cat and dog caregiving. This should be factored in before you embark on a multi-pet home.
