The photograph shows a bobcat and her cub emerging from a crevice in what appeared to be granite rocks. This is a natal den and bobcats find anything suitable for such a den including rock piles, caves, brush piles or hollow trees. I have seen quite a few photographs of mothers and their cubs in hollowed out trees or fallen trees which have created a hollow inside.
