According to the database of clients of the American Banfield Pet Hospital the most popular cat names of 2018 are, wait for it….
1. Luna
2. Bella
3. Kitty
4. Oliver
5. Lucy
6. Charlie
7. Shadow
8. Max
9. Leo
10. Milo
They all look very nice if slightly generic and unexciting. I’d rather name my cat in way which is more personal and particular. For example for Burmese cats (if you happen to live with a purebred Burmese, which is slightly unlikely) I’d use Burmese names.
Luna
Luna is an Italian and Spanish name of Latin origin meaning the moon. I am sure you knew that. For humans it is a girl’s name and is ranked 14th. Not bad.
Bella
This is also a female name meaning beautiful if we read it as ‘belle’ in French. Bella is a diminutive form of names such as Isabella.
Leo
This is Latin for lion. Many early Christian saints were called Leo. A nice name for a big Maine Coon or any big cat with a gentle but fierce face.
Milo
This name is of Germanic origin. The origins are uncertain. It might be derived from the German ‘mild’. Babycenter.com says that it is from ‘Milo of Croton’ a wrestler from the time Ancient Greece.
My thanks to mentalfloss.com for the list. The info on names comes from various sources.
