Helping Feral Cats in Lanzarote

I moved to Lanzarote 6 years ago and it soon became apparent to people living here that I was an ardent cat lover. I was so alarmed at the number of people ringing me to question me what they could do with kittens they had found, that I decided action was needed. I set up a charity called 9liveslanzarote last year & cannot believe how some people treat the feral and domestic cats.

We are only skimming the surface of the problem here, but at least I have found there are some wonderful and caring people here who love cats just as much as me.

I hope you are still there and read this. Your comment concerned me. There would seem to be a rather poor attitude to wildlife and feral cats in Lanzarote. This does not surprise me.

Could you write a bit more about the problem you describe?

I would love to help and I feel real concern for these birds but it is difficult to do so from the UK running a website about cats.

Thank you though for visiting and telling us about this.

Michael

Sep 10, 2011 PLEASE HELP
by: Anonymous

To whom it may concern,
I hope that my comment will be heard??
I have searched the net and found your website, I know that this isn?t about Cats, but I feel you may be able to help me save these animals or direct me too some one who can?.
I am a huge cat and bird lover?..
I'm from England and have been living here in Lanzarote for 3months with my boyfriend who is a local??
We visited Guinate Bird Park a few days ago, and we where appalled by the condition in which the animals where kept in.
All the animals' water and food where dirty and full of their own feces!!
Most of the bird's (mainly parrots) had picked off their own feathers from their chest, from stress and discomfort.
Some birds where painting from heat, with no shade??.
There wasn't any park rangers or people there who check and feed the animals??
All the animals in that park look sick and very unhappy!!!
Is there anything I can do to help them?

Not quite sure how this is of any relevance to this site. Surely a charity would not be looking for Home Loans? Or have I missed something please enlighten me.

Hello. I am trying to reach an online friend from a cat forum who lives in Lanzarote. Her name is Lori Duffy (married name Bracken), and she is a huge cat lover which is why I'm reaching out to you. We are very worried about her due to some troubles shes had recently. If you know her and can help us reach her at all we would truly appreciate it. My e-mail is ch*****@gm***.com or if you can just get a message to her to check in with her friends at mchy. Thank you so much.

What wonderful work you are doing ! I know what a struggle it is at times, as I've done cat rescue all my life.
I love your web site and will join, as I see you have another UK member.I can't help you personally but will pass your site on and hopefully someone else in your area might see it and support you a bit.
Good luck.
