I would like, if I may, to show you the photographs of Dana Wimpfheimer and let her do the talking about herself. It is clear that Dana has a love of animals and has expressed a desire to do more cat photography. This is a profession that I know a bit about from my past work as a professional photographer and my association with Helmi Flick. That is why I would like to promote her fine photography on PoC.

Here is a short autobiographical résumé:

“I have always had a real love of animals. We always had a collection of pets in our home – dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice, lizards, etc. I started riding horses as a young girl and at the age of 20 I developed an interest both in photography and in galloping racehorses.

They kind of went hand in hand, so I started taking photos at steeplechase meets and selling them to the jockeys and owners.

Late in my twenties, I met my husband and we started a business training the horses ourselves. This was very time consuming and as a result, I didn’t have much time for photography.

Unfortunately, I had some nasty accidents – it can be a rough sport! About 10 years ago, my husband decided to switch to transporting horses and I trained the one horse that we kept. When she was retired, I decided to stop galloping horses for a living, as old injuries had caught up with me.  I had to have several surgeries to repair the damage done to my body and still suffer from arthritis. That was when I went back to photography. I am now taking photos of horses training in the morning and have done fairly well with that.

I still wanted to try and do more photos of cats and dogs. A friend of mine, David Brownlee (he trains racehorses and also owns Gone Wild Bengals) had me take pictures of his Bengals and I was smitten!

I am still gaining experience and enjoying it immensely.  For example, I am planning to go watch Helmi at the show in Atlanta.

David introduced me to Helmi’s work and asked her if she would mind if I called her for some advice. I emailed her and she set up a time for me to call. I had a wonderful conversation with both her and Ken.”

I hope you enjoy Dana’s animal photography as much as I do.

Hi, I am 70-years-of-age at 2019. For 14 years before I retired at 57, I worked as a solicitor in general law specialising in family law. Before that I worked in a number of different jobs including professional photography. I have a longstanding girlfriend, Michelle. We like to walk in Richmond Park which is near my home because I love nature and the landscape (as well as cats and all animals).
