How do I make a cat love me less? This is a real question by a nice looking women (Samantha?) who obviously gives off the right vibes and smells for cats. She was or is staying at her parent’s house. Her parents’ cat, who is a gorgeous looking, laid back, ginger boy by the look of it, has fallen head over heels in love with her. As she is leaving her parents house soon she says:
The cat is obsessed with me, attached at my hip 24/7…..How do I make this cat more attached to my parents so it does not commit suicide when I leave the home? Am I a motherf**king cat whisperer? No, I am just annoyed…
She is obviously genuinely annoyed. That is the impression she gives in her words (but see the video below for a slightly different scenario). She pushes this cat away she says and tries to get him to stop being so attracted to her but without success. But truthfully, I think she likes cats and cares. Can we suggest something?
Here is a video of her with the cat she is writing about. By the way, I have no idea what she is talking about but the cat is so cute in his behavior.
Here is a still picture of this cat, in case the video disappears:
Stop moaning about this cute cat 😉 You have a charming friend during the time you are at your parents. If I were you, I’d enjoy it and feel privileged to be to attractive to a cat and probably all cats. You can put that on your CV. If you are attractive to cats it means you’re good. Cats know whose good and bad….And when you leave your parents he’ll just have to get used to it. And you know what? He will get used to it, silently and without fuss.
Your words are conflicting. I sense that you care about cats because, despite what you say, and the way you say it, you are concerned about this cat.
The Suggestions of Others
Here is a sample of the suggestions by other people:
- “Cheat on it with another cat, right in front of it” – My comment about this: I would doubt very much that this would have any effect at all. The idea is to make this cat jealous. On the basis that cats can feel jealousy what if he is not the jealous kind?
- “Hug the cat fairly hard until he becomes fed up with you“. Comment: this is based on what is called “corporal cuddling” from one of the those funny cat videos. I don’t like this idea – simple as that. It is based on punishment. It is also so unfair and destructive to punish a cat in such a subtle way when the cat likes you so much.
- “As much as I don’t endorse hurting cats, cat ran in front of my dad’s foot and got it’s toes stepped on. Didn’t go near my him for a month.” Comment: you are recommending inflicting pain and harm on a cat. Clearly wrong and possibly a crime, in fact.
As I have said, enjoy his attentions while you can and when you have your own place and husband etc. adopt a cat who needs a home. I have a feeling that you’ll be a great guardian and caretaker.
