The pet product market is huge and very profitable. This is a device you put under your cats’ litter tray to measure the weight of your cats’ poo and the frequency of going to the tray and the time your cat delivered it. It sends a signal to your smartphone using an app 😉 . At work: “Oh, look people, my cat just had a poop”.

Sorry, but I just don’t see it being successful. Cat caretakers should use the litter box as a simple diagnostic tool to check on their cat’s health. You don’t need a machine to weigh poo – I presume it weighs the litter tray without poo and with it. But what about pee?

In any case simply weighing poo (I am being serious) is not that useful. The texture and color is the most useful diagnostic element 🙂

I suppose the device will tell you if your cat is constipated. Well, it does not take much to see that. There is no need for a device.

The problem is that the pet product market seems saturated and the good ideas have all gone. This device called the Tailio is a product that is destined to fail. It is trying to find a niche market but it won’t work.

It is also potentially bad for a cat because it may make the cat owner lazy about diagnosing her cat’s general health in relying on the machine.

There is no better way than to do it yourself and learn a bit about cat health and yes….poo, a useful diagnostic tool for the observant pet caretaker.

  1. If the makers of this product were to actually turn it into an accurate in-home diagnostic tool, I think it would fly.
Stools could be scanned for occult blood and parasites. Urine could be evaluated for the presence of occult blood, WBC count, and ketones.

  2. Just curious…
I wonder if this thing can distinguish between pee and poo and; if so, how?
And, if the cat pees and poos at about the same time, there won’t be an accurate weight recorded.

  3. It may catch on because of those people who always must have the latest and greatest. There are lots of them.
Amazing what people will throw their money away on.
