A Special Catmas Gift to all: Written by Dr. Hush Puppy and Sir Hubble Pinkerton

T’was the night before Katmas and all through our house
Not a critter was stirring except for a very small white mouse.
All the stockings were hung up high on the top of our cat tree
Just for the convenience of St. Kitalous, who we hoped purrhaps might drop by.

While we waited to see him, Sir Hubble and I curled up in our warm cozy bed
With dreams and visions of freeze dried turkey treats and catnip mice filling our heads.
But when Meowmy and daddy retired to get a good night’s sleep
Both of us were startled and bushed up our tails in sheer terror upon hearing a fur-raising squeak.

My friends, let me tell you that startling a kitty from a deep sleep is not very wise,
Especially when your parent’s tell you their deep devotion is a treasured prize.
But when we saw that little white mouse scamper across the floor,
My bro-Hubble and I without hesitation flew like lightning through the kitchen door.

Blinking in disbelief, Sir Hubble and I were shocked at the sight
of that brazen little white mouse sitting on his haunches, also in obvious fright.
He was all dressed up in a red jacket and polished black boots.
Thrown over his shoulder was a huge bag of catnip and our favorite fruits.

Were we dreaming or was this little mouse decked up in red and black,
Carrying a bundle of beautifully wrapped gifts in his fully loaded sack?
Was this wee rodent huddled in the corner who was shaking in terror
Really a special being who might possibly change our lives forever?

Kneading to know exactly who he was and the reason he was here
We cautiously moved closer to him to whisper our questions which he would better hear.
But before we could approach him he cleared his throat, and began to speak.
And while he was quite nervous his message to us was more than incredibly sweet.

“On this special evening I stop by the homes of all people who have cats.
And take the time to sit down with their kitties for an important little chat.
While I visit in the disguise of a little white mouse all dressed up like Santa Claws
My true mission is to sprinkle an abundance of love with my tiny white – gloved paws.”

Both Sir Hubble and I stared at him; our mouths fully agape,
as this tiny white mouse  adorned himself with a fancy silver-lined cape.
He gave us a wink and a nod – then jumped into his miniature sled, eager to depart.
And as he disappeared in his sled way up into the moonbeams we heard him shout,
”I am the great St. Kitalous living forever in your heart; teaching everyone what unconditional love is all about.”

  1. Beautiful thoughts and sentiments, Doctor and Sir! May St. Kitalous fly down the chimney and bestow huge quantities of all of your favorite treats and delectables upon you (and may he also leave some joy and cheer and love for your caregivers, who are very dear!) >^^<
