Of course this site is fundamentally about cats but everything we do that affects us also affects our cat companions as we wholly create their world. That’s the overlap and it justifies me briefly touching on AI and how it is ‘dismantling our world’ according to Laurie Anderson, a US avant-garde artist and musician. She is in the news today and she is right about AI which can work wonders for the betterment of humankind but in today’s world which is arguably ‘going wrong’ with an increase in autocracy and a drift to war, AI will increasingly be used by ‘bad actors’ who’ll use it for personal gain but for purposes which damage the world. Bad actors think short term and about personal gain without looking at the bigger picture which today means protecting the planet and society in general.

My personal view currently is that humankind is not ready to successfully harness AI for benefit. I can see it being used to dismantle and even destroy the world that we know. You can combine that with global warming, another human behavioral problem. Think of it as a double whammy effect: misused AI and the burning of fossil fuels. A toxic combo to destroy this fragile and glorious blue gem of a planet in the vastness of the black universe.

What happens is that the tech guys end up inadvertently changing the world at a fundamental level. Tech does run the world and alpha males with bad intent use tech for personal gain without concern for society in general.
