The infographic below provides my answer, as I see it. You will see different answers on the internet an as provided by AI. I believe my answer is reasonable and plausible. Please contribute by commenting; particularly those who live with a hairless cat and who are allergic to cats! How many of these people are there?
The bottom line in answering the question is that hairless cats autogroom like other cats as it is entirely instinctive. Although autogrooming is about maintaining a cat’s coat the behaviour is instinctive which means that the lack of a coat does not stop the behaviour.
It is therefore a question as to whether they groom themselves as much as other normal cats with coats. For clarity ‘hypoallergenic’ means designed to be less likely to cause allergic reactions. It does not mean, in any case, that they will cause zero reaction.
My conclusion as explained in the infographic below is that Sphynx cats and other hairless or semi-hairless cat breeds are probably less likely to cause an allergic reaction in people who are allergic to cats because they are allergic to the Fel D1 allergen contained in the cat’s saliva.
