The best internet browsers for PoC are:
- Firefox
- Google Chrome
- Apple Safari
They are very similar in quality. Safari and Chrome are slightly faster than Firefox.
The following are OK:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 10
The following are not good as they render the website slightly incorrectly (the menus are blue rather then grey/brown:
- Internet Explorer 9 and lower.
If you use a version of Microsoft Internet Explorer that is 9 or older (i.e. 8, 7 etc.) – please update it by going to:

Thank you very much.

i have found google chrome is better as u can stretch those aps on left and right and makes it much better to read::)
i just gone back to google chrome was using firefox dont use internet explorer at all. Im using windows 8.1 which id rather was windows 7. Get annoyed with how it automatically zooms 🙁
What the site looks like on my computer.
I see the same.
I just don’t know how to help Sarah.
LOL. That made me laugh. Sarah has a decent computer and Windows software at home. I think she is referring to her work computer. I think the site runs well in all the browsers I have mentioned.
I am pleased you see the same.
OK. I’m a little lame; but, I cared.
The addition of various popups at the side and bottom crashes my browser (IE on Windows 7) at lunchtime from work. Alas no choice of browser.
I don’t have any popup, Sarah.
So, not sure what you mean.
There’s the Facebook/tweet/share that pops up at the left-hand side, the “recommended for you” at the bottom right. Move cursor too far right and there’s a “recent comments” pops up (this is on a transparent background which means the listing can’t be read). I’m guessing these are “mouseover” coded areas, but I find it too cluttered and the browser just freezes 🙁
I see the shared on left lower, no recommended for you at the bottom right, recent posts are upper right just under an advert
Going down right…
more share symbols
categories
archives
recent posts
another advert
write a comment
kids stuff
then, a lot of categories
Go to the very bottom of the site and you should see 4 image links.
Yes.
The right hand side slider is not recent comments 😉 You can reduce the size of the website and have space left and right. The Facebook likes block on the left is useful there because it is visible and not below the header where it pushes the content further down. It is all a compromise in the end.
Sorry. “Latest comments”
At the base of the site there are four images with links to other pages and on the right there is a small arrow which when clicked opens up to reveal more links to more pages. If you don’t see it, it must be down to your browser, Dee.
No crashes here.
And, I do see thwe arrow to more links and use. I like it.
I’m just not sure why Sarah is ahving such a problem.
Good, god! I am dislexic!
the
having
LOL. Don’t ask me what I am or am becoming.
Nor me 😉 I want to show off as many pages as possible because there are 8,000 pages and 99% are not in front of visitors enough.
Shame. I like those giszmos. They are functional. They add some extra traffic and make it look more attractive. I am surprised they crash your browser.
I have Windows 8 and IE 10.
No problems except with AOL exclusively.
No idea what my internet explorer number is but it’s working fine at present, I can see exactly what you say we should and our motto is ‘If it aint broke, don’t fix it’
I don’t know what caused my problems on PoC a while back when it wouldn’t let me comment, but it went right and I have google chrome as a back up now if needed, so leaving well alone lol
Good, Ruth I am pleased. You have a decent computer with reasonably modern software but some people have 5 year old computers with old Internet browsers usually Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 9 and older.
I visit a library that has old computers to check out how the site renders and there are also websites where you can simulate rendering a website in old versions of Internet Explorer. A run-off
Babz has just showed me how to find out and we both have Internet explorer 11 🙂 🙂
We think our computers are about 3 years old now.
A relief for me! IE 11 is reasonably good. It the most modern version as far as I know.
I use a feed reader called NetNewsWire – works fine and I can organize articles in one interface from anywhere I want really.
