Boris wants a dog in Downing Street. Larry the Cat is the chief mouser to the Cabinet Office. He is the resident cat at Downing Street and he’s been there quite a long time. He is a 12-year-old tabby cat who fights with the Foreign Office cat, living next door, Palmerston.

It’s been announced that Boris and his girlfriend, Carrie Symonds, plan on getting a rescue dog for Number 10 Downing Street. That does not necessarily create a complication but it might.
They are going to have to make the right decision to ensure that a new dog at Downing Street gets on with Larry. I don’t know Larry’s character. He might be very amenable to getting on with a dog friend and then again he might not.
Carrie Symonds is an animal lover which is a great thing. She also fights for the environment which a lot of us approve of. So it’s quite natural that they would like to adopt a dog companion but I hope he/she is the right one.
We should also hope that he is going to be around long enough to make the decision viable. There’s lots of talk of him being ousted by a vote of no confidence followed by an election. He may become the shortest serving Prime Minister in the history of the UK. I sincerely hope not. I am one of those people who like him and think that he is doing a good job at present. A lot of people hate him or at least dislike him but that’s normal for somebody who is as outspoken as he is.
Let’s wait and see if this story develops.
