Cannabis culture is bad for pets and humans — 5 Comments

  1. It’s not just the smoke. Many are promoting medicinal marijuana for cats. I constantly see recommendations for CBD oil to be used for health issues in cats. Problem is, it is high in phenols. In fact, the higher the phenolic content the better the quality. Phenols are toxic to cats. They lack the liver enzyme glucuronyl transferase to detox them from their body and they build up. The pushback from users of this product is cultlike. Mostly, I hear the typical denial “My cat’s fine”. Yuh….until it’s not. The negative impact will depend on the amount/length of phenol exposure and the condition of the cat. If one insists on using this product on one’s cat please closely monitor its liver. NB: phenols are also in pine and cedar making them harmful products for cats to be around.

  3. If one needs to smoke it due to medicinal reason than by all means do what you need to. However, do not subject your cats and/or dogs to the smoke. It is bad for them and not fair that they are ingesting it.
