A pleasant, quiet woman living in Bethlehem, USA, has died in a fire in her third-floor home in the 900 block of Wyandotte Street (Route 378) reports Lehigh Valley Live.
A neighbour described her as a nice lady. Smoke was seen billowing out of her home. The Northampton County Coroner is checking for next of kin. The Bethlehem Fire Department was called out to the fire at about 6:40 a.m. and requested additional help. The pictures show several fire fighting vehicles and many fireman outside the building.
The lady was known to feed stray cats in the neighbourhood. There appears to have been cats in the building. Members of the Lehigh Valley County Animal Response Team were called to remove cats. Cat carriers were taken into the building. The picture below shows members of the response team with cat carriers outside the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Comment: I like to remember and recognise the lives of anonymous, almost invisible, people who support animal welfare quietly throughout their lives. They deserve praise and recognition I believe. These are low profile people. They don’t create a lot of buzz and internet noise but without them the world would be a worse place. They are good people. May she rest in peace and I hope the cats are safe and re-homed quickly and satisfactorily.
