I think that declawing is absolutely terrible

by Lauren

I have never had a cat, but I would love to get a Siberian cat. My mom and I found a cat when we saw a car drive by and dump a cat on out street. We fed the cat for a couple of days, and then took him in and found a very loving home for him with one of my mom’s friends who had been wanting a cat for a while.

So my point is that I have a soft spot for cats, and I think that declawing is absolutely terrible. I never truly knew what declawing was, but I never liked the idea of removing a cat’s claws. Now that I know what declawing really is, I am even more against the idea. I just hope that we can get rid of this.

I have also read the comment by Melissa, and I do feel that if the cat is truly a danger to him/herself, that declawing can be considered after a consultation with a very well approved veterinarian.

One Crazy Cat

I was at Pet O Rama getting my brother some fish. I went to the cat isle and there was a ruffian orange and white La Perm wildly wrestling the other 6 kittens in there.

In order to (a) calm him down and (b) keep the other kittens safe, I asked the store manager if I could play with him. He said yes because the animals needed exercise.

He was friendly, but manic, and soon he had hopped out of the pen I played with him in and ran off. I scooped him up before he got far and soon I played with him all the time. I, to this day, call him Ruffian.

Health Questions about Scottish Folds

My first experience with Folds -- 1 died at 10 with acute pancreatitis/stomach cancer. The other had arthritis and died of a heart attack at 11.

I now have 2 wonderfully healthy Folds. One is 6 1/2 and the other is 9. I am worried if this breeds has a general lifespan that is shorter than other breeds -- or a predisposition to arthritis.

The mutt cats I have had before this breed have lived to 18 or 20 years old.
