Scotland: Snooks is an elderly cat. He collapsed many times daily because he had a history of “heart blockages”. According to his veterinarian the only option was to fit a heart pacemaker. As it happens his human caretaker, Ian Anderson, is also elderly and he has been advised that he too might need a pacemaker soon. Ian’s heart worked too hard (is that high blood pressure?) while Snooks’s heart slowed right down.
Snooks’s pacemaker cost Ian £3,000. The veterinarian at the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine said:
“We have placed pacemakers many times in dogs but Snooks was the first cat at our hospital.”
