Cat has lived up an oak tree for more than 6 years

This tabby-and-white domestic cat was chased up an oak tree when he was a kitten more than six years ago and he has not come down. Firefighters have tried to rescue him but he refused their help. He is fed by the locals. The obvious question is why they can’t simply grab him, place him in a carrier and then gradually rehabilitate him in a gentle and pleasant home. I am sure he’ll get over his nervousness. Despite that question it is a nice thing to do, for the locals to feed him in the tree for six years but I can’t help feel that this is wrong. He is not living anything approaching a normal life and if he falls ill he’ll have to be brought down anyway. That would resolve the problem.

It is rather odd. I have never heard of such a strange state of affairs before concerning a cat stuck in a tree. The normal maximum duration is about a week. But the locals have accepted it. They seem to have respected his choice. However, it is a choice based on a bad experience. This should not dictate how he lives the rest of his life. Come on ladies and gentlemen; commit to getting him down and find him a great home. He’ll be fine and a lot happier in the long run.
