Cat owner’s mother-in-law goes crazy and injures her cat

This mother-in-law was a danger to cats

As a cat owner, have you had problems with your mother-in-law regarding your cats? This woman certainly did. While her husband went through military training in eastern America, her husband’s parents asked if she would like to live with them as a guest until her husband’s return in December.

She agreed partly because she is a very good house guest. She brought her cats with her. The parents-in-law had cats of their own and they were indoor/outdoor cats. I guess they found some way of separating the cats during the stay.

Father-in-law bitten

Her father-in-law wasn’t paying attention one day and he let one of the outside cats in the house. One of the guest’s cats chased the father-in-law’s cat down the hall where he cornered both of them under a bed. He tried to separate them by putting his hand under the bed in between the two cats (stupid!).

Mother-in-law goes nuts

The guest’s cat bites the father-in-law (predictable!). Both cats remove themselves from under the bed and they seem to be okay. Meanwhile the mother-in-law is “running around the house screaming obscenities saying she’s going to leave my father-in-law if he lets me keep my cat”. In other words she is saying that she is going to divorce her husband unless the guest’s cats are removed from the house.

Mother-in-law injures cat

Meanwhile, the guest’s daughter is distraught and crying because nobody has ever raised their voice like that before. The guest’s cat ends up hiding behind a door. The cat walks towards her owner with a limp. The guest then notices that her mother-in-law is in the hall with gloves on. She asked what had happened. In response the mother-in-law screams at the guest that she didn’t hurt the cat. She then walks off and slams the door behind her. It seems clear that she was trying to get the cat out of the house and in the process injure the cat.

The cat clearly had an injury on one of his hind legs because he couldn’t walk on it. The guest was distraught because she felt that she had let down her cat knowing that it was her primary duty to make sure that he was safe.

No-kill cat shelter

Soon afterwards the guest took her cat to a no-kill shelter for his safety (Is she sure? No kills are not 100% no kills). She had to pay $300 for this. She wasn’t sure whether she should get out of the place. That’s where the story ends. Did she leave the the home and find somewhere else to live, taking her cat with her? The strong conclusion is that she would have been foolish not to have got out of that house because clearly the mother-in-law was as mad as a hatter and quite able to injure someone else’s cat.

  1. The author of the best comment will receive an Amazon gift of their choice at Christmas! Please comment as they can add to the article and pass on your valuable experience.
  2. I have spoken of my in-laws often. They and none of the family are allowed across our threshold. They are animal abusers and I will not tolerate them in my home let alone near my cats.
Relatives and friends should have the same values you place on your animal companion or at least respect your rules in the home regarding them.
Never put your pets in danger. Quite simply this woman if in the US was considered a resident and the in-laws would have had to evict her. And since the cat was part of the agreement either oral or written they can’t demand she get rid of the cat.
BTW how do they know which cat actually bit the FIL ?
Personally I wish the animals would turn on their abusers. They will end up dead anyway at least this way perhaps they’d take one down with a good malingering infection.

Want to add that the escalation of events is typical of a control freak narcissistic nut job. The OR ELSE is something you hear all the time.
Narcissist are always the nicest people until they have you in their web of deceit.
MIL NUT JOB has not exerted her control by making the DIL get rid of her cat. She better get out quick. If the husband does not stand behind his wife 100% of this abuse she needs to get rid of him too.
I have so been there done that got the T-shirt. I finally told my husband it was them or me. He chose me but understand by that point I didn’t care which he chose I just wanted no more contact with those people.
This is not just a MIL having a fit over a cat bite this is a MIL showing her true colors. Best guess both the husband and son are well trained lackeys.
I wish I could access my old blogs about my MIL and her family on this PC. It’s a word of warning to all young people out there when you walk into this kind of mess.
