Every now and then in rescue we see a cat whose face haunts us for days, weeks, months. This happened recently to a cat rescuer in South Carolina when this cat was saved by a reporter from the flooding caused by Hurricane Florence in Burgaw, North Carolina.

The photo of this little feral cat went viral on social media. Thousands shared it and even more, as word came in the kitty was rescued. PoC covered that story here.

Hurricane Florence animal rescue: Freelance reporter became a hero to one little kitten in distress

After two weeks of searching, cat rescuer Daren Watson has discovered what happened to this drowning kitten. After being rescued from the waters it was left in a disclosed location in Burgaw, NC. Daren is offering a $100 reward for anyone who can trap this kitten and will provide the location only to experienced trappers.

Daren has fallen in love with this kitten and will come to get it. An urgent plea is being sent out to TNR advocates who can attempt to catch this poor baby. If you can help in any way or if you actually trap, please contact Daren via Facebook.

We can’t really blame the reporter or rescuers for releasing the cat. If indeed it’s a true feral, it would likely have put up a fight once it recovered from the shock of being snatched. I doubt seriously there were traps on board boats sent out to rescue those stranded during Hurricane Florence.

Please share this with everyone in your social media network and particularly with trappers in the Burgaw area. With all of us combining our crossposting skills, let us remain hopeful this kitty can be found.

  1. Keep in mind someone may have taken this cat inside so sharing with everyone in the area may help. If it’s truly feral and not a community cat then it’s likely still living outside.

    • Elisa, thanks for this. I presume Darren got involved because he read the story and wanted to adopt the cat. And he now wants to find the cat. Is that right?
