Can someone tell me why this ginger tabby does this?
The lady encourages him and he responds. My guess is that he only does it on this table. At one stage he tried to cross his legs! As it is unnatural, my initial thoughts were that he was trained to do it in order to make the video but I don’t think he was.
My feelings now are that he is copying the woman who is doing the filming. Cats do adapt to human lifestyles. They do learn by observing and copying. This normally takes places between cats within families and colonies but the domestic cat has the chance to copy us.
The description below the video is: “Poland, OH — This cat, Red, has a hilarious way of sitting.” That vaguely implies that the behaviour was not trained. Red lives in a town called “Poland” (strange name for a town) in Ohio, USA.
Please comment on Facebook as well as it helps spread the word – thanks.
I don’t know why Red sits like that. Bandit would take his paw and scoop his dry food up like a racoon or a human and eat out of his paw. He became irritated with me one day when I pulled out a camera and tried to take a picture. He threw the food on the floor and walked away.
