I have the distinct impression that a not insignificant percentage of domestic cats are traumatised to varying degrees after visiting a veterinary clinic. It depends upon the cat’s character and of course the handling of the cat at the clinic.
But I also suspect that medical staff sometimes handle cats quite roughly in order to protect themselves from claws and teeth. Cats become defensively aggressive at veterinary clinics. They strike out. Staff need to protect themselves.
That said, some cats become very passive and frightened and therefore they are submissive. Once again, it depends upon the character of the cat concern.
