Cat’s First Time Outside Brings On Priceless Expressions

Kiwi, an orange tabby, was (and perhaps still is except for this once) a full-time indoor cat. He was taken outside in what appears to be the arms of his caretaker. His expressions are interesting. I think to be honest the cameraman has occupied his attention for a part of the time. In the last photo he appears to be sniffing the air. It must have smelt damn good.

Kiwi enjoying his moment. The four photos were taken in sequence with the top photo being Kiwi’s first taste of the outside

I am not suggesting that all cats should be allowed outside. Cats will undoubtedly enjoy the experience, though, as can be seen by Kiwi’s expressions. He seems very calm. It might not have been altogether wise to carry him out like this as something could have startled him causing him to jump off and run away. No matter, he enjoyed it and he’ll want to do it again. Get ready!

  • I agree with you Michael. The scent in the air will have been very interesting to Kiwi.

Considering that was his first experience of going outside, he seems to have taken it all in his stride. He looks so happy in photo 4 that I hope he's allowed to repeat the experience. Even if it's on a harness or under supervision of his owner, it will enrich his daily life.

  • Great photos. Nos. 2 and 4 are my favourites.

Kiwi looks as though he enjoyed his moment in the fresh air. I bet it felt great to feel the sun on his face and inhale all those interesting scents. I wonder if he's shown any interest in going outside again.

    • I think it was the scent in the air that had the biggest impact. There is water in the background so the air probably smelt of the sea or a lake; that special smell you get with water. It is these little things which makes for a rich environment for a cat.

  • Hi Michael!! Sorry it has been a while. . . This is a really cute article. . . Kiwi is so precious!! I have been saving all your posts in my file for your things. . . I need to get caught up!! UGH!! just been crazy here. . . Hope this finds your and your fur kids well. . . ♥♥♥

      • We are all doing well. . . I lost 2 of my seniors -- I lost my oldest (15-1/2) on July 15 -- she just went to sleep and never woke up. . . It was a shock to my son and me because she was in good health and hadn't been ill. . . I lost my second one (9 yrs old) on September 1 from congestive heart failure. I do believe, however, it was a congenital problem because her and her siblings (2 brothers -- I had one and a friend had the other) died from the same problem. My Luke crossed in January 2012 (he was 5 yrs old), and the other sibling crossed before him!! I think the mom was too young to be having babies and it caused the congenital issue. . . It was a feral family, and it was a neighborhood project one weekend to catch and save the family. . . Mom was finally trapped, spayed and taken to one of the friend's farms. . .all worked out in the end. . .
