Cats love shoes. They love your scent inside shoes. Here are 9 photos to prove it! Cats can indulge in scent exchange inside a shoe! They deposit their scent onto the shoe and take your scent off it. This makes cats feel better – at home. The merging of scents 😉 .
It’s funny, we don’t like the smell of our feet. We try and kill the smell. Cats are the opposite. I think we should be more like cats.
Here is a video I made years ago which also proves the point. The cat is a Savannah cat. An F2 as I recall or an F1. A rare cat. It was videoed at the home of Martin and Kathrin Stucki at A1 Savannahs. They have since sold the business.
Even animals love good shoes. Thank you for a nice and interesting site. Develop it further.
Look for dunk sneakers on the Sneakerzone website. Everything you need is there.
Shoes are to sniff and pee in here, one outdoing another.
So, my shoes are promptly put away.
Socks are a whole other story and become the property of Damon, the thief.
I noticed my cats were more interested in sniffing shoes when they were indoor-only. Our shoes also carry the scents of all the places we’ve visited. For cats not regularly exposed to lots of new and different scents, it must be interesting for them trying to identify what these unusual scents might be. Could this explain why it’s shoes and not slippers, that fascinate some cats?
I also wonder if the behaviour also comes down to personality. Merlin loved smelling my ex’s shoes and would cram his face as far into the shoe as he could. The smellier the trainer, the better (lol). Sophie would sometimes investigate the exterior of shoes (especially those of visitors) but otherwise she showed little interest in them.
I’m curious to hear other people’s experiences.
That is a fascinating observation about shoes and slippers and it could well be correct. Cats do pick up on scents and new ones interest them.
Was Merlin close to your ex.? What I mean is was he close relationship-wise?
I don’t know if I’d say Merlin was closer to my ex, as he was a sociable, friendly cat who was equally affectionate with both of us. Maybe he was, but I really couldn’t say for sure.
It might also be that my ex would literally kick off his shoes when he came in from work. Whereas mine were stored away because Merlin liked biting the stiletto heels or chewing on ankle straps.
