I was sent 12 Catty Stack boxes to review about 2 months ago. I put them together and have finally had time to evaluate them in terms of quality and design after I had them tested from all of my personal cats and a few shelter cats. This jungle gym like cat tower that you see above is comprised of high quality Catty Stacks – a blessing for my agile cats who are infinitely curious about new things and love to explore but have no interest for the modern type of cat tower which is made of faux fur or wood. I think this stems from the fact that there is nothing that a cat would rather sleep in or play with than a cardboard box.
The boxes serve as a great place to be for a cat of any personality and is often a landing strip for play sessions and play fighting. Shy cats can observe their environment from above or from the hidey holes while confident cats can have an elevated place to nap during the day. It is a happy medium for feral cats and semi feral cats who need to work on getting acclimated to people and new environments without feeling like they are wide open to an attack or socialization. Stealthy hunters can use the hidey holes and the elevated areas as a jumping board to chase after or attack cat toys such as Da Bird or the Cat Charmer.
Catty Stacks are aesthetically pleasing so this type of product is ideal for people who do not like the way that a traditional cat tower blends in with their current decor or house design. This tower might also be a good solution for a house that does not have the vertical space to devote to a modern cat tower. The Catty Stacks are more light weight than most cat furniture on the market and are more customizable than almost any other vertical space system that you can find on Amazon or elsewhere. The lightweight design is what makes them easy to clean and take apart too – especially for senior citizens or people who have a bad back.

The design of this cat housing system works flawlessly for attracting cats because cats love boxes as I said earlier – they are driven to them more than anything else in life other than cat food. I admit that it did take me about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to put all 12 together because it was a learning process. My cats were already trying to jump up on top of them and inside of them while I was setting them up and clipping them together. You may choose to place beds or other comfortable covers on top of the Catty Stacks or inside of the Catty Stacks for additional comfort.
There are downsides to this design including the cost which I feel is quite hefty for cardboard. For two boxes and a bridge you would be looking at $29.99 plus tax and shipping. That is just an insane price to pay but rescue and shelter operations get a discount so you would be looking at much less than that. I feel like the rescue and shelter prices are fair. I am not saying that they are not worth the money but my town does not have a ton of rich people so they would likely be the ones to gawk at the pricing and walk away.
The Catty Stacks system is unique because of the way that the boxes are made and presented. The Catty Stacks are made in the United States with high quality Corrugated Ultraboard which was a pleasant surprise. The boxes are 100% soy based ink so they are completely safe and non-toxic to your cats for long term use. Each box is 16 inches in width, 16 inches in depth and 15 inches in height which is a good amount of space without being over the top.
The creative and innovative design of the Catty Stacks will allow you to create custom configurations and layouts that appeal to each cat’s individual personalty. Rearranging the configuration several times a year can keep the Catty Stacks system interesting and endlessly entertaining for you and the cats. You can continue to rearrange the Catty Stacks throughout their life.
Ensure that the height of the stack does not ever exceed 1 more than the number of horizontal boxes in your configuration for optimal stability. You can do as you wish and I have modified my own stacks beyond that level but it was never completely stable.
The best benefit about this system is that you can move the entire design just by moving it or scooting it around once it is assembled because it is just that sturdy and lightweight. Countless configurations paired with easy movement of the stacks from place to place is the optimal way to entice your cat to exercise while keeping their territory novel and entertaining. The boxes are only 2.5 pounds in weight but can hold up to 40 pounds each from my experience.
Five out of my fifteen cats are over 15 pounds and use the Catty Stacks on a regular basis for jumping, pouncing, and sleeping. I like to have my cats chase the Bird Catcher Pro or the Da Bird from the bottom of the tower to the top and in and out of the hidey holes for exercise. I like to mentally stimulate my cat during play therapy to keep their lives both rich and exciting. Playing with your cat is a fantastic way of getting them acclimated to this piece of furniture being in their life and serving his hunting instinct at the same time.
One cat that I have just wants to go to the back of the Catty Stacks on the bottom level and have some privacy for when he is overwhelmed. My biggest cat has the urge to sleep on the top most of the day because he is rather reserved but is confident enough to be out in the open where people might come by because he doe want to know what is going on from above. I have seen no problems with the architecture even when there are more than 3 or 4 cats on the design at one time. There is a little bit of everything in this tower for any kind of personality.
You can order the Catty Stacks in boxes of 2 from the main website or from Amazon. The newest model does come with a bridge attachment which I have tried on several boxes. I personally do not like the bridge because it significantly increases the amount of room that the structure takes up. The bridge is just as stable as the boxes and help expand the design beyond what was possible with just the boxes which is a plus.
Some people may worry that their cat will claw up the cardboard but I have not noticed this to be a problem in my house of 15 cats. The cardboard is made in such a way that does not invite your cat to claw them up like they would a corrugated scratchpad. Even if they do claw on the boxes, it is much better than clawing up your furniture in the end.

The Catty Stacks are extremely easy to clean and are okay to clean with Trifectant or Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide for rescues or shelters that need to disinfect them regularly. I would avoid bleach or other harsh cleaners. You will need them to dry in the sunlight more likely for best results.
The Catty Stacks would serve a great purpose in any animal shelter because they provide variety and add style to the shelter that they are setup in. Again you want to make sure to flaunt your shelter status so you can get a discount. It would be amazing to modify the setup every 2 weeks to keep it fresh for the shelter cats and provide entertainment for the staff. People will certainly notice and be more apt to donate to a place that knows what they are doing.
