Claws Are A Cat’s Defense!

Claws Are A Cat’s Defense!

by Elisa Black-Taylor

Claws are a cats defense and after reading this story I challenge anyone to disagree with this. The cat in this article protected itself with it’s claws!

This case of cat abuse occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2011 when Lanzro Fernandez of Keansburg, N.J. went on a rampage. What’s really distressing about this case is that Fernandez works at a PetSmart store in Holmdel. You’d think anyone who works around pets would have a love for animals. Apparently not.

His girlfriend returned home on Sunday to find her cat staggering and in horrible shape. Hernandez had drop kicked the cat, whose name was King. She rushed King to the vet where he was euthanized because of the extensive head trauma and other injuries.

A family pet rabbit was also killed by this monster.

Now for the hero in the case. The girlfriend’s cat Cinnamon fought off Fernandez with his CLAWS! It took twenty stitches to sew up this abuser. Hooray for Cinnamon. Imagine what would have happened to this cat if not for his claws! My guess is he’d be dead.

People, do NOT declaw your cats because one day your cat may need them to defend itself. This cat is alive today because it had claws!

After the initial three charges of animal cruelty it was reported that Fernandez and his girlfriend adopted a ten week old kitten from a pet fair at PetSmart where is was employed. On May 5th he called the adoption coordinator and told her he’d hurt the kitten.

The adoption coordination persuaded him to take the injured kitten to the Banfield Animal Hospital (a lot of PetSmart stores have this on site clinic inside the store). The vet determined the injuries on the 10- week-old kitten were so severe it had to be transferred to Lexington Animal Hospital in Clark. It is still hospitalized and recovering from it’s injuries.

Fernandez has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty and will go before the Keansburg Municipal court judge on June 2 at 8:30 a.m. Here’s the information in case anyone wants to drop a line to the Court. Go to the Municipal Court page on the website link listed with their address. It has the judges name and other information

Meanwhile, Lanzro Fernandez has been suspended from PetSmart. The director of public affairs issued a formal statement after his arrest.

“PetSmart is committed to the well being of pets and is undertaking an investigation of these allegations. In the interim, the associate has been suspended,” Mike Mullin, director of public affairs at PetSmart

I think it’s the greatest kind of cowardliness when a grown man (or woman) feels the need to injure a defenseless animal. Or to injure one who fought back using his claws as Cinnamon did.

Cinnamon, you should get an award for your bravery and also for your self defense skills.

Can anyone tell me why a 40 year old man feels the need to do this?

His girlfriend isn’t being charged in the case, but I hope this serves as a getaway call for her to run as fast and as far as she can from this monster. People who abuse animals almost ALWAYS abuse family members.

Comments anyone?

don’t devlaw your cat
by: Anonymous

I also understand that Petsmart treats their animals horribly! Just try to sneak in the back room and see what they do to sick or injured animals.
I never buy ANYTHING from Petsmart. Not surprised that this jerk worked there!
Hope he gets his butt in jail or something!

I’m fearful for Cinnamon
by: Leah (England)

I take it Cinnamon was the girlfriends other cat?

I’m scared for him if he is because when this guy comes back that cat will be for it claws or not. Clearly she’s too stupid not to have animals and too stupid not to ditch him.

I could never be with a man who I knew to be capable of aminal cruelty however if my circumstances dictated that I had to be with such a man them I would do without an animal companion for the rest of my life because I would not want to put an animal at risk of abuse.

That man ought to be taught a short sharp lesson by a real man one that doesn’t hurt animals.

He needs to be sacked as well from the pet shop; the mean evil shit should be no where near animals!!!

Comment About Murderer
by: Anonymous Amputees

I am in too much shock to say anything nice except:

Three cheers for Cinnamon:

Hip, hip, Hooray!
Hip, hip, Hooray!
Hip, hip, Hooray!

My question is: Why did Cinnamon need to use her claws in the first place? Shouldn’t this man be dealt with before he commits these horrendous crimes? There are MANY warning signs!

Good Lord!
by: Debbie

Why didnt he get arrested after the first cat and rabbit he killed?????? and why didnt the vet call the police when the lady brought the cat in and it had to be pts? if he had been arrested THEN, the poor kitten they were able to adopt would have never even made it to their house! Yes cats Do need their claws, its sad they need them against a human! but if a cat manages to get out of the house and gets in a cat fight being without claws is very dangerous too. sadly they shouldn’t need to defend themselves against a human who are supposed to take care of them. I hope he gets a long time in jail (doubtful but one can hope) and I dont think either one of them should be allowed to adopt or buy a animal, him ever again, her give her 10 years, do a background check that shes not with another abuser, or that she has turned into a abuser herself, and maybe give her a chance but I dunno, she knew what he did to those animals and yet she went and got another one???? No wonder I love my dog and cat more then most humans, they make more sense! (and have more sense)

Insecurity
by: Michael

I wonder how a cat feels in terms of confidence and feelings of security without his or her claws? It may and probably does that part of their emotions never mind all the rest.

YES a cat NEEDS his claws !
by: Ruth

Yes a cat needs claws to defend himself and although people say ‘My cat will never be in danger of abuse’ they don’t know that for sure !
I’ve seen just this week the damage a terrified cat with claws can inflict in self defence !
The fact that a cat can inflict injuries should not be used as an excuse to declaw because if you don’t threaten or hurt a cat, he won’t hurt you.
How I wish an eye for an eye was still the law, I’d be first in the queue to drop kick the scumbag who abused those cats and all the other scumbags who should rot in hell for what they do to innocent trusting creatures.
