Colonel Meow has died

Colonel Meow has died

Until September 7th I will give 10 cents to an animal charity for every comment. It is a way to help animal welfare without much effort at no cost. Comments help this website too, which is about animal welfare.

Colonel Meow, one of the most famous internet cats in the world, died January 29 after a brief illness. He was rescued several years ago by the Seattle Persian and Himalayan Society after being found abandoned on the side of a road. Colonel Meow underwent a thorough vet exam, and was soon adopted through Petco by owners Anne Marie and Eric Rosario. The family lived in Seattle until their brilliantly intelligent cat instructed his family to move to California.

Well, California is the best place for a famous cat to become more famous. Movie directors and all else considered…

Colonel Meow has a Facebook page set up for what he calls his “minions.” There are more than 343,000 people following his life. Since learning of his death Thursday afternoon, more than 22,000 fans has shared the grief of his passing with friends. His “slave beast” (another word for mom) expressed her sadness, but has yet to offer up a cause of death at this time

Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when I’ve had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both.

Here are some things you should know about him.

  • While Grumpy Cat appears “grumpy,” Colonel Meow appears “angry.” And he expresses his opinion of the world on his many social media sites.
  • He holds the Guinness World Records Title of Longest Fur On A Cat, with 22.87 cm (9 inches)
  • On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, CafePress and Tumblr
  • His goal was to make cats the most dominant species on earth
  • Grumpy Cat has NOTHING on Colonel Meow.

You don’t see his owner’s trying to publicly exploit him in the manner Grumpy Cat has been exploited. When Colonel Meow was ill last fall, his fans raised more than $20,000 in a matter of hours to cover $15,000. The additional money was used to help other cats in need. In other words, the family isn’t trying to get rich off of their cat at the expense of the cat. His sense of humor on Facebook is addictive.

Colonel Meow’s personal info, in his own words, includes

“My favorite thing to do is eat. When I’m not eating, I feel like I forgot to eat so I go back to eat again. I’m really good at staring, and if I stare too long I forget what I’m doing and fall asleep. I’m really fluffy so I cough up a lot of hair balls.”

In September 2013 Colonel Meow made the Guinness Book of World Records for longest fur.

Above is a YouTube video featured on the Colonel’s YouTube Channel.

Even though the cat world has lost one of their beloved, I imagine Colonel Meow will continue to rule Facebook from the Rainbow Bridge. I LOVE his sense of humor, and plan to follow his posts as he reports back to us from the afterlife.

Rest in peace Colonel Meow. You truly were one of a kind.
