There are many good consequences of the coronavirus outbreak. It isn’t all bad. Nature has taught humanity a lesson. That sounds a bit sick but it is true although I recognise the sad deaths and feel for the families of those who have passed. But let us remember that most of the people who have died have underlying chronic illnesses and their deaths are due to a combination these illnesses including the virus. One happy consequence is the virus is some lucky cat guardians get the chance to work from home.
Their cat no longer has to wait patiently all day for their return from work. Another silver lining is less air pollution. And then we are spending less so we are saving more if we are still in work. Wanton consumerism has eased back. That’s good. China now recongises that a country without animal welfare laws (as it is) is liable to end up creating a pandemic of garganuan proportions (as is the case). You can’t abuse millions of animals over thousands of years without paying a price somewhere. The moment has come. I hope other nations now force China to completely alter their attitude towards animal welfare and enact animal welfare legislation in the interests of animals and the world in general.
