Have you ever brushed a small mountain of fur off of your furry feline and thought ‘there must be a use for this?’

Japanese photographer Ryo Yamazaki is making use of the fur he brushes off of his three cats. He makes little hats and then posts photos of the cats wearing the hats to his Instagram account. Some of his photos also show off cat toys made of fur.

There are many books available on Amazon that go into detail on how to turn your cats discarded fur into something useful. In the past, I experimented with fur and made a few toys out of small rolls. You just have to make sure your cat doesn’t try to eat them or you’d be dealing with a hairball!

Have any of you tried making something cute? Please share in the comment section. Photos are also welcome as well as any books you’d recommend on crafting.

  1. It’s an entertaining idea. I’d be sure to wash it though. A lot of hair that comes off, does it for a reason… it’s old and I imagine less healthy than the hair that stays on… likely not as smooth, which might collect microscopic particles. I’ve looked at hair on the brushes and yeah, it is dirtier.

  2. I have used the shredded combed fur of my cats for replacing some of the original cattleskin on my collection of African wooden handicrafts. Excellent and better than the original cattle skin. Both my traditional Persian cats Matahari and Matata shred a lot of fur and it’s excellent for decoration of handicrafts.
