Dana and LeoBear

I got my little guy in a shelter in NJ. He was days away from being put down. I thought he was an older cat because of his size so I was looking at the kittens beneath him. Then this huge paw kept hitting me in the head so I finally chose him. As the other animals were running around like crazy animals LeoBear just sat in my lap quite content while we did the paperwork.

Same thing when I took him to get his free rabies shots. People were losing their animals left and right and LB just laid in my arms. Well since that time he has moved with me to Chicago, CA and other places in the country. United Airlines has given him his own Frequent Flyer miles.

He’s 18 years old and 5 years ago was diagnosed with kidney failure and given only a couple months. Well, last month I took him to the vet to see if he would be okay to be groomed and put under while they did it. I had since taken him off the treatment because he hated it and I figured he lived a good long life and I didn’t want to stress him.

Well, the vet was amazed his kidneys were back to 100% and he still bounces around like a kitten. He loves to snuggle and has no desire to go outside or chase other animals.

Nov 20, 2009 nice story

I loved your story. It gives me hope since my cat is getting up there in age. Im not really even sure how old he is but I estimate him to be between 12 and 15. I hope you and your cat still have many years together.

Nov 20, 2009 Beat the odds
by: Finn Frode, Denmark

Hi Dana. What a wonderful story – your LeoBear sounds like a real good cat. He has beaten the odds, had 5 years more than was to be expected back when he was taken ill and reached a very high age for a cat – that’s really something to be grateful about. Cats like him are fondly remembered long after they are gone, but hopefully that’s still a long way off. Every day is a gift, so enjoy. 🙂
