My ideas for future books – book called: Daybreak.
Prologue: the sun shone down in the forest. A cat, black as night steps forward. His muzzle was battle scared and his eyes burned like a new fire. At his paws, sat a brown cat, her eyes shone with fear.
“What are you doing back here?” the black tom growled.
“Nighteye, I told you, I must see our kits!” she whispered.
“No! you can not! I can’t let my clan know I was with a cat from…” his lips curled back to reveal sharp, yellow teeth. “…ShadowClan!” the she-cat looked hurt by Nighteye’s sharp insult. She stepped forward nonetheless and licked his cheek.
“I still love you…” she muttered under her breath. Pain washed through Nighteye’s heart, but he pushed her away as she tried to lick his cheek.
“We can’t Mousetail! I know how much it hurts you not to see our kits but you gave them up to be a medicine cat. Now I keep them…”
“Nighteye, please!” Mousetail begged. “Please just let me see them… Starclan told me I was going to die soon! I want to see the only kits I’ve had before then!”
“You… you’re dying?” fear washed around the forest.
She’s so scared…she must be telling the truth! he thought.
“OK, stay here, I’ll get the kits. But remember, they don’t know you as their mother so they might attack you.”
“A risk I’m willing to take.” Nighteye returned with the kits.
“Brightpaw, Mosspaw, I’m so happy to see you again!” Mousetail bent forward to lick her kits but Mosspaw, a light grey she-cat, leaped forward and bit down hard on Mousetail’s windpipe.
“No!” Nighteye cried out. But Darkpaw, a dark brown tom, had joined in the battle, raking claws down his mother’s side.
“Stop it! leave her alone!” but it was too late… they had killed her… after killing their mother, blood dripped from their claws and teeth. “what have you done?”
“We followed the warrior code Dad.” Mosspaw told him. “why?”
“The warrior code does NOT say you can kill a cat that is no threat!”
“But, Dad, she’s from Shadowclan and we’re from Thunderclan!” Brightpaw explained. “she was trespassing!”
“She wasn’t doing anything wrong… and… she was your mother!”
Note to visitors… this is short extract from a story written by a person who plays Warrior Cat RPG. RPG = role-playing game (RPG) is a broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. The characters are feral cats with human/cat personalities. The books are very popular. People who play the games like to try and write a story themselves. I have part written one but not read the books at all: The Warrior Cat.
