I think that it is fair to say that cats can love people and therefore provided that you love your cat he/she may well love you. But let’s be honest, the word love is heavily abused and it means different things to different people. But if it means a strong affection towards another then I would argue that domestic cats can love us because I would also argue that cats can feel the emotional of affection which is demonstrated towards other cats and towards people. If they can do that it is one small step to loving us because loving is simply a strong affection.
