Drunk tenant on sink estate throws their cats from 13th floor at 5am?

Birmingham. UK: A ‘sink estate’ is stereotypically a neighbourhood of people living on benefits (‘welfare’ in America) where they idle the days and nights away watching television, arguing and breeding.

This article is not simply reciting cat news. It reflects my impressions of what it is like living on a dull council estate where petty crime and bad behaviour is the order of the day.

This low level life has, on this occasion, resulted in two cats – I presume owned by the same person, probably a young woman with three young screaming kids – being thrown from the 13th floor of a tower block. The picture shows them as they were found.

I guess the old adage that cats can fly like flying squirrels does not apply when they are unceremoniously chucked from the window of an apartment 13 floors above ground. It does make me think though: cats often survive these falls. Were the cats hurt before they were thrown from the window?

The RSPCA as usual is investigating. They were thrown from a one of the towers, Kingswood House on the Druids Heath estate. A dull, inhospitable place for those who have given up living full lives.

Update about 8 hours after I wrote this: The RSPCA say it is an accident. The two cats both fell out of an open window. Sorry I can’t believe it. No way.

Someone saw the cats and called the RSCPA at 8 am. The RSPCA believe they may have been there since 5am. If that’s accurate it would seem that the owner was being awoken by her cats and decided to throw them out the window. I’ll bet that’s the way it happened. She was probably still drunk from the night before. Or the boyfriend did it. The same backstory applies.

The cats were not microchipped. They should be able to trace the owner easily however. Anyone who knows these cats should call the RSCPA urgently on 0300 123 8018.

Note: I have deliberately indulged in extreme stereotyping in describing the perpetrator of this crime. I may well be wrong but in general I’m right. In the UK, as I am sure is the case in the USA, there is a significant body of people who think they can live their whole lives on welfare. They have no intention of working. For single mums that means breeding and the more the better as you get money for having kids in the UK. Only God knows why.

    • Thanks Cat’s Meow. Although I was speculating. The RSPCA now say it was an accident and I can’t believe it.
