Dying of kidney disease this elderly former feral cat played grandpa to rescue kittens

Grandpa Mason carrying a large kitten. Screenshot.

Grandpa Mason as he was affectionately known, was a geriatric former feral cat with terminal kidney disease. He was not so keen on people but he loved kittens. He lived at Tiny Kittens a rescue group in Langley, Vancouver, Canada and was the oldest feral cat that they’d seen.

The short video of Grandpa Mason carrying a large kitten to a den at the other side of the room is charming in the extreme. It has been widely viewed and praised.

I have referred to Mason in the past tense because as far as I know he has been recently euthanised. That sounds brutal but the post on Instagram by Tiny Kittens tells us that he was terminally ill. He was given the opportunity to play at grandpa to kittens which he thoroughly enjoyed before they decided to send him over the rainbow bridge.

We have to accept that as a good decision. May he rest in peace and I expect that he is busy carrying more kittens on the other side as I write this but without that limp. I think he had a bit of arthritis as well.
