This table compares official to local researcher figures in relation to the Eurasian Lynx over the four countries assessed:
Country | Official Fig. | Unofficial Fig. | Conservation |
Slovakia | 1037 | 200 | Strict protection. Hunting not allowed. |
Poland | 250 | 150 | Strict protection. Hunting not allowed. |
Ukraine | 300 | 300 | Strict protection. Hunting not allowed. |
Romania | 2600 | 1700 | Hunting restricted to part of the year. |
The discrepancies between the official figures for populations and the “experts” is stark. In respect of Slovakia the official figures are over 5 times higher than local researches.
The authors of this research paper relied on local researchers to compile the following table on population density of the Lynx in the countries specified:
- Slovakia: under 1 per 100 Km²
- Poland: 2.3 per 100 Km²
- Ukraine: 1.9 per 100 Km²
- Romania: 2.6 per 100 Km²
