I should add that I know all about this topic as my cat follows me all the time including when I go to the shops. He stops at a distance from the home – his den – where he feels uncomfortable to proceed. That invisible line is the edge of his home range which extends around my house.

It is about a maximum of 500 metres from the house. Normally less. Make that a square of 500 metres each side and you have around 60 acres. Often a domestic cat’s home range is much less at perhaps around 10 acres or even just several. It depends on the cat’s personality and gender. Females often have smaller home ranges than males.
