Feline Brain Tumor

by Michael
(London, UK)

Feline brain tumors are rare. Lymphosarcoma is the most common tumor of the central nervous system. The brain is part of the central nervous system. Different forms of lymphosarcoma affect different parts of the body1.

This form of cancer affects the spaces around the brain and spinal cord.

In memory of Uhu

The signs come on slowly and can include:

– spasms of face and limbs
– paralysis – facial paralysis (Brain Stem)
– loss of coordination and wobbles (Cerebellum)
– blindness (Hypothalamus or optic nerve)
– loss of smell

General symptoms can include:

– loss of appetite
– decreased activity
– decreased purring
– confusion
– lethargy
– irritability
– loud meowing
– mood swings
– walking in circles

This list is not comprehensive.

Cancer is caused by the rapid division of cells and tissue growth that interrupts the function of the organ concerned.

“Cancer is genetically influenced.”2 Carcinogens and environmental pollution can increase the chances of getting cancer.

A good vet will advise on treatment. Feline stroke has similar symptoms to a brain tumor.
