This picture of feral cats on Big Island of Hawaii is interesting because they have been in the news extensively over the past year. The authorities are very concerned about feral cat predation on on the islands of Hawaii. There are TNR programs but there have been discussions about culling the cats. Judging by the photograph there are lots of feral cats. It has to be said that this must have originated in irresponsible cat ownership leading to informal breeding of stray domestic cats. Culling of feral cats doesn’t work effectively. The general consensus nowadays is that extensive TNR program is the best course of action.

“Some of the local feral cat population that hangs out at Holoholokai Beach Park in Mauna Lani / Puako, Hawaii. Most of these cats have been “fixed” – they are captured and spayed / neutered and then one of their ears is clipped to indicate that they are sterile.”
