Here are four (no six as I liked them too much!) great photos of cats and kids by Iwona Podlasinska. She is a top female photographer. I believe she is Russian but is international in her outlook and work. There are many more photographs by this lady on Flickr. She is essentially a child photographer creating magical, slightly unreal photographs of children within the landscape or the setting might be an old building, cobbled street, shop or by a window; evocative locations. They look like film sets.
The superb lighting is an essential reason why the photographs have this magical quality. She uses Sony equipment (full frame 35mm), a slight telephoto lens (85mm) and a wide aperture (F1.4 or F2) in order to render the background out of focus which gives the images a softer feel.
The pictures are carefully created. This is apparent. A lot of work goes into each photograph. The clothes, lighting, setting and important. The timing, of course, is critical. When working with children and cats there has to be a bit of luck in respect of timing. The subjects are her children and the children of relatives. I believe the kittens and cats are hers.
