Freddie Mercury loved cats so the words he used are literal. For men and women it probably meant sex. For cats it meant company, specifically a calico cat whose name was Delilah, who slept at the foot of the bed. That’s my interpretation. I feel sure he was referring to Delilah (and other cats he lived with) when he made that statement.
However, the words are interpreted by others to illustrate the wild life that he lived. As Tony Allen-Mills of The Times put it,
“But the one thing that every Queen fan knows about Mercury is that the flamboyantly bisexual performer and partygoer did not live a 12A-rated life..”. This is in reference to a film about the rock-star which is soon to be released.
Mercury adopted most of his cats from rescue organisations. This is in contrast to people like Taylor Swift who flounces around with her Scottish Fold under her arm leaving hotels and the like. I like Taylor Swift but I don’t like to see her on the street with a purebred cat under her arm.
Mercury dedicated the album Mr Bad Guy and the song Delilah to cats. Delilah was a large calico cat who he adopted in 1987. She slept at the foot of his bed as mentioned.

Why on earth has Ms Swift purchased a genetic disaster of a cat that comes with arthritis already on board at birth? Ridiculous young pop stars are known for impulse purchases of animals, exotic or domestic, then dumping them.
Sounds like her cat has a miserable life, nothing like the life of love and comfort that Freddie’s cats enjoyed. He was a genuine cat person.
