ENJOYING RAISING MONEY

ENJOYING RAISING MONEY

My sister Babz has to hold fund raising events at the branch of Funeralcare she runs, as part of her job, and I always give her a hand as she has her usual work to do too.

Luckily she gets to choose her own charities and this time she chose Kays Hill Animal Sanctuary as they are struggling to raise money to complete a new cattery which is very badly needed, as well as to feed more than 300 various animals and birds.

The only cat at the event was a cat shaped cake (lol) which was quite a talking point as no one wanted to cut into it.

Seeing as it would be too traumatic for a real cat to come as a mystery guest amongst so many strangers and in a strange place, Betty and Simon, two friendly old guinea pigs, came instead. They were lovely and had lots of fuss made of them.

The event was a great success, raising £146 for which Kevin who owns Kays Hill was very grateful

It took some organising and was quite a day, but very enjoyable too. At first it seemed strange having happy events in a Funeral Home, but lots of the same people come every time as well as new people and are now feeling comfortable about coming in to a usually sad place.

Babz has helped many charities over the years this way too.

Feb 16, 2010 guinea pigs
by: kathy

I love Guinea pigs. When I worked at the pet shop I did what they called Discovery Day at the local grade school. MY presentation was always the most popular. I took about 8 different types of pets that children of those ages usually about 8 or 9 years could take care of. I gave a little talk about the history of each animal and what care they required. I did this for about 7 years. Then the pet shop closed and my friend went to a grooming only shop. Guinea Pigs were great and I always enjoyed them. I had two for pets for a long time and my best friend Bev raised them until she passed away.
