I am addicted 😉 . To photographing him. I hope you’ll forgive me. It does make a decent record of his early years at least. He looks like a little person in the photo! I am anthropomorphizing him.
I think he is super cute in this photo. I have used an additional light source to that I can capture more fleeting moments (higher shutter speed). Also, in winter there is not much light inside the home in good old Blighty (old fashioned slang for Britain or England – England is not Britain).
Gabriel was standing up to one of the scratching posts on the upper tier of the cat tree playing and I called out to him so that he looked towards the camera. There is a little bit of judicious editing to improve the image a bit – I hope. Photo editing should be done with a light touch in my view otherwise it spoils the picture. It can become too become visible and dominant.

At the moment I don’t need a cat tease to get his attention. I just make a noise and he normally looks towards the noise.

Yes, correct I guess. He gets the kitten/young cat early morning madness and runs around wildly first thing in the morning which makes it tricky to work on the site 😉 . You have to play with young cats.

I know how you feel Michael. My beloved Holly was like the daughter I never had. I couldn’t have loved her more if I’d given birth to her myself. It’s the tenth anniversary of her death next month and not a day goes by when I don’t think of her. I miss her very much. Especially as Sophie is the total opposite in personality of Holly.
I’m glad you have found another cat you feel that special bond with. It’s a wonderful thing when it happens.
