This is a cute little video on TikTok which is now slightly out of date but the ‘Partygate’ scandal rumbles on so it is still relevant. It seems that a cameraman and a television presenter were waiting for government ministers and perhaps the Prime Minister to exit Number 10 Downing Street to ask about Partygate and while waiting Larry the Cat was wandering around the forecourt at Number 10 which is a normal road but a cul-de-sac. They decided to interview Larry instead who is completely disinterested as he would be because he played no part in Partygate! Larry is quite relaxed with strangers as he also would be because he is allowed out the front door at Number 10 to wander around the road and the environs. For people who don’t live in UK, Number 10 Downing Street is right in the middle of London and about a hundred yards down the road is a gate leading up to Whitehall which is a very busy thoroughfare with lots of traffic. I’m always a little bit nervous seeing working cats at the Prime Minister’s residence and office allowed to roam freely as they always have been.
Below are some more pages on Larry. If you are unsure, Larry is the current resident domestic cat at Number 10 Downing Street. He was a rescue cat at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and they offered him as a replacement to the former resident cat. He is apparently quite a good mouser but he used to fight with the resident cat, Palmerston, at the offices opposite which is the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Palmerston has now been retired because life was too stressful.
Larry looks a little bit overweight in the video which is in line with the Prime Minister’s weight although you could argue that he is not a little bit overweight but greatly overweight. There are a lot of staff at Number 10 as it is much larger than you think. A few of them, as I understand it, care for Larry and I believe they do so out of their own pocket but perhaps there is a contribution from the administration budget of Number 10 Downing Street.
The Partygate scandal still has the power to force Boris Johnson out of office. It is not about him inadvertently joining leaving parties for a few minutes and having some cake and champagne. It is more about how he dealt with the accusation which has resulted in the opposition saying that he lied and broke the ministerial code. That’s the problem but it is all about Boris Johnson’s disregard for the rules unfortunately and his rather cavalier approach to doing things including his appearance which doesn’t help.

Of course Larry was at the garden party and he’s not talking because he drank so much dark ale he can’t remember a damn thing! LOL!
