Milo
Hi friends... Milo is doing good but I am worried that Milo is losing too much weight. She is eating good and drinking good and is playful at times also everything seems to be normal that way but I really do think she is losing weight.
She is an older cat, she is ten years old. I was wondering if there is something wrong if she is losing too much weight?
I think anyways please if anyone knows anything about this I would love to hear from you if not I will take her to the vet asap thank you.
Darlene
Hi Darlene.. thanks for visiting and asking. Of course the vet is the best person to assess the situation but these are my thoughts for what they are worth.
If the picture heading this page is recent then I don't think she is underweight.
I also don't think ten years of age is that old although in the US some people do think a cat is old, so I respect that. For me 15 years of age is old for a cat. Changes in Older Cats gives some clues as to what to see in older cats.
If Milo is eating and drinking well and if her stools are OK and if she is urinating as usual the basic signs are that she is well.
If you are judging weight visually you might need to check by weighing yourself on scales and then weighing yourself and Milo together on the same scales. Subtract the first weight from the second to tell you how much Milo weighs and then monitor it daily to see if she really is losing weight.
Weight loss is a very general sign of illness, the causes of which are numerous so they cannot be listed here. See Cat Illness Symptoms for a list of symptoms and possible causes but please don't read into this list that Milo is ill when he might not be - it is a guide only. The best assessment is made by you with your vet and you are the boss in that relationship.
I am not sure that she is losing weight sufficiently to be of concern but you are much nearer to her and know her far better than me so I trust your assessment.

Hope this helps, Darlene, and please leave a comment telling us what you did etc. I would like a follow up to your post - thanks. I moved your post to the cat health page.
